Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain or other materials that are bonded to your teeth. You can use dental veneers to change nearly anything you don’t like about your teeth including their size, shape, length, and color.
We offer veneers made of either porcelain or resin materials. While porcelain veneers don’t have quite the same strength as resin veneers and are slightly thicker, they do have advantages in that they are more resistant to staining than resin, and they also appear slightly more natural thanks to their light-reflecting properties that are closer to natural teeth. Are Veneers Right for Me?
You are a great candidate for veneers if:
- Your oral health and hygiene is good overall
- You avoid habits that are damaging to your teeth such as biting pencils or your nails or chewing ice
- You don’t grind or clench your teeth
- You are a non-smoker
- You are either free from gum disease or your gum disease is well under control
Dental Veneers are slightly more fragile than your natural teeth, and they can chip, crack, or become dislodged due to poor dental habits. While they may become stained from smoking or food and drink, they cannot be whitened like natural teeth. Because placing veneers requires removal of a layer of enamel from your teeth, once veneers are placed, they will need to stay on. Veneers are long-lasting but not permanent and need to be replaced after about five to ten years.
Placing Veneers
At Fleischmann Family Dentistry, we only trust the best dental labs to make our dental veneers and other restorations. We also only use restorations that are made here in the United States. We feel that it’s important for you to be able to trust the materials that go into your restorations, and we won’t attempt to cut costs by purchasing an inferior product.
Getting veneers is usually a three-part process. Your journey to a gorgeous smile begins when you call our office and schedule a consultation with Dr. Brooke or Dr. Dave to discuss dental veneers. At this appointment, your teeth will be examined, and you may also have x-rays taken. This is to make sure that veneers are a good option for you.
The next step is to prepare your teeth for the veneers. At this point, your mouth will be numbed with anesthetic so that a thin layer of enamel can be removed to make space for the veneers. This is likely to make your teeth more sensitive until the veneers are placed. We will take impressions so that the dental lab has a model of your teeth to work from. If necessary, you may have temporary veneers placed.
When the veneers are back from the dental lab, usually about one to two weeks later, you will return to our office, and the veneers will be bonded to your teeth. At this appointment, your teeth will be etched to give the cement that is used to bond the veneers something to cling to. The veneers will be placed, and the cement will be cured using a special type of light.
You may be asked to follow up with us so we can check your fit. If you experience any problems with your veneers or if your bite feels off, notify us immediately so that we can see you in our office.
